Dr. James Schmidt

Dr. James Schmidt is a compassionate and skilled general dentist proudly serving patients at Prairie Rose Family Dentists’ Mandan location. Born on a naval base in Japan and raised in the heart of Bismarck-Mandan, Dr. James is honored to now care for the very community that shaped his upbringing and inspired his passion for dentistry.

He earned his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from the University of North Dakota, where he held leadership roles in both the Pride of The North Marching Band and his fraternity, Lambda Chi Alpha. He went on to receive his specialized dental education at Creighton University School of Dentistry, proudly following in the footsteps of his father—and longtime Prairie Rose partner—Dr. Sid Schmidt.

Dr. James Schmidt offers a wide range of general dental services and takes special interest in restorative dentistry, extractions, root canal therapy, and dental implants. Always striving to grow in his field, he’s committed to expanding his knowledge to bring the highest quality care to his patients.

Patients will find Dr. James to be calm, friendly, easy to talk to and a wealth of knowledge. He’s passionate about building trust, having real conversations, and making sure each patient feels heard, comfortable, and confident in their care. His goal is for every visit to be a positive experience that leaves patients feeling empowered to take charge of their oral health.

When he’s not in the office, Dr. James enjoys making music (he plays guitar, piano, saxophone, and bassoon), spending time on the river, hitting the slopes, or catching a game of basketball. He and his fiancée live in the Bismarck-Mandan area with their two lovable poodle-mix pups.
